Three matches of Croatian representatives, three defeats. After Duje Ajduković and Nino Serdarušić in singles, the performance at the ATP Challenger Split Open on Thursday ended also for the brothers Ivan and Matej Sabanov in the doubles competition.
Albano Olivetti and Matt Reid, the No 2 seeds who combined 69 titles in the Challengers and ITF tournaments, proved to be too strong for Ivan and Matej with a score of 6:1, 7:5. The first set was a one-way street, and in the second our pair had a set-point at 5:4, which Olivetti canceled with a good serve. In the next game, the Frenchman and the Australian made a key "break".
- We didn't have any chances in the first set. They served much better and were safer on the return. We had a set-point in the second, but Olivetti hit a good serve. In the next game, our concentration dropped and they took advantage of that - Matej Sabanov told us after the match and announced that he and his brother will probably stay at the next tournament in Split, which starts on Monday.
- We haven't had a big result yet this season, but we have been playing solidly for some time and I think it will open for us soon. Maybe next week - Matej concluded in a positive tone.
Friday is the day of the quarterfinal matches in individual competition and the semifinal for doubles. Petrović - Collarini, Žuk - Kokkinakis and Golubev / Nedovjesov - Kolar / Rosol will play on the Central Court from 11 am, and Rola - Bašić, Kavčič - Vukić and Walkow / Zielinski - Olivetti / Reid will play on the Court 4.
